Mae didn't do a lot of TV, believing that anything she did should be an event. And she didn't like the idea that folk might talk to each other while she was on or, worse still, switch off!  But in fact, because her appearances were so few and far between, they were indeed events, much looked forward to and reflected upon by her fans.

However disdainful Mae might have been about television, it was largely through TV that she was able to consolidate and indeed grow her fan base. Long after the movie theatres had stopped showing her pictures, they regularly turn up on the late show on TV and through this medium a legion of new fans continue to discover the phenomenon that is Miss Mae West.
