Mae West's Passport, reproduced here with the kind permission of its owner, Jeff Escabar, is interesting for a number of reasons, not least of which is the fact it is inaccurate on at least one point. In it she states her date of birth as 1896 - three years later than the date she admitted to in her autobiography, published in 1959. Further, she gives her height as 5' 4". From what we know of the great lengths to which she went to disguise her diminutive status, she may well have added a few inches (probably figuring, quite rightly as it has turned out, that this most private of documents may one day be made public).
